The first Icon Class ship

— Ship names are always written in italics within body copy. In certain display scenarios, this may vary. Note that the registration mark is not italicized.

— Royal Caribbean ships are gender neutral entities. We do not call a ship “her” or “she”. Use the “it” pronoun, “ship” or just the name of the ship.

— Do not use an apostrophe with the ship name, whether in a possessive or contracted form.

The back of the ship. Do not refer to it as “stern.”

forward

A ship term used to refer to the front of the ship. Should not be called the bow.

midship

The midpoint of the ship; the center between bow and stern. Often used to describe the location of venues or staterooms relative to the rest of the ship.

Royal Promenade

A multi-level atrium that runs through the middle of select Royal Caribbean® ships.

ship-to-shore

Used in reference to telephone calls made from the ship to receivers on shore. i.e. “You can make ship-to-shore calls from your stateroom, 24 hours a day.”

shipwide (ship term)

Used to describe features or events that apply/occur across all areas of a given ship. Example, shipwide Wi-Fi.

Starboard

The starboard side of the ship is the right side, when looking forward. The opposite side (left) is known as the port side.
